Labourer to serve 18 years for defiling girl, five

Cape Coast, Aug. 28, GNA – A circuit court in Cape Coast has sentenced one,

Kwame Botwe, a labourer, to 18 years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a five-

year old girl.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Chief Inspector Agbezuhlor told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that on August 5,

the victim, who lives in the same vicinity with the convict at Obaako-Ndidi, near

Apenkro, was playing with some friends outside when the convict called her.

He said Botwe, took advantage of the absence of the girl’s mother, lured her into his

room and defiled her, amidst warnings to keep it a secret.

He said four days after the incident, a neighbour told the victim’s mother that she

saw the girl entering Botwe’s room and later came out screaming.

Chief Inspector Agbezuhlor said the victim later narrated the ordeal she went

through in the hands of the convict to her mother when she was questioned, and a

report was made to the Cape Coast DOVSU where she was asked to go to hospital

for examination.

He said the convict, who was later arrested, admitted the offence in his caution

statement.
