MMT remains safest means of transport in Ghana-MD

Ho, Aug. 25, GNA – Metro Mass Transit (MMT) remains the safest means of public transportation in the country despite recent accidents involving some of its buses, Mr Maxwell Awuku, the acting Managing Director of the Company, has said.

“We are still training our drivers and laying-off unprofessional ones.” Mr Awuku said in an interaction with the media on Tuesday after meeting workers of the Company in Ho.

Mr Awuku said over 1,000 workers of the company were dismissed for unprofessional conduct over the past two years and advised all workers to be honest, dedicated and hardworking.

He assured the workers that hard work would be rewarded.

Mr Antwi Gyenfi, Chairman of Board of Directors of MMT, said hostels would soon be built for drivers and conductors where they could have enough rest before embarking on journeys.

He said speed limit mechanisms would also be installed in the buses.

Mr Gyenfi urged conductors and other workers who are cheating the system to desist from the act because those caught would be prosecuted and not interdicted.
