Nkawkaw, Aug 25, GNA – The Kwahu West Municipal Directorate of Education has banned vacation classes in both public and private basic schools in the area, except for third year students in junior secondary.
The measure is aimed at helping the brains of the children to rest after a long-term’s intensive study.
However, the third year students have been given the opportunity to complete their syllabus to enhance their performance in the Basic School Certificate Examination (BECE).
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Noah Agyare Dwamena, announced this when he addressed the second ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the Assembly at Nkawkaw, on Wednesday.
He said vacation was significant in all sectors of educational institutions, from basic to the tertiary level, for the school children and students to rest their brains.
Mr Dwamena, therefore, advised head teachers and proprietors of basic schools not to think of monetary gains to organize vacation classes.
He said the directorate had received and distributed 130,585 pieces of exercise and note books to basic school children, while 2,000 pieces of school uniforms had also been received to be distributed to children in the deprived communities.
Mr Dwamena said in the public schools, there were a total of 924 professional and 365 non-professional teachers.
He advised all educational stakeholders in the municipality to cooperate with the teachers and the assembly to improve the standard of education in the area.
