Motorcycle thief jailed seven years

Tarkwa, Aug 25, GNA – A 28 year old unemployed, Bawa Abdulai, has been imprisoned for seven years for stealing a motorcycle belonging to the Tarkwa-Nsuaem National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Florence Tawiah, told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel O. Diawuo, that on August 19, this year, at about 1330 hours, the complainant parked the motor bicycle with registration number GW 6842 Y, at the Omanhene’s palace.

She said Abdulai, on seeing the motor, quickly informed Prince Boateng, a taxi driver, that his motor had developed a fault and would need his taxi cab to convey it.

Inspector Tawiah said the motor was picked up from the Omanhene’s palace but as they were heading out of the Tarkwa township, the accused on seeing a private security vehicle assumed it was a police vehicle so he jumped out of the moving taxi cab.

The driver, suspecting foul play, parked the taxi cab and raised the alarm, which led to the arrest of Abdulai.

When the suspect was sent to the police station, a report had already been made that the motorcycle had been stolen.
