NDC Youth wing cultivates 40 acres of maize

Agotime Kpetoe, (V/R) Aug 24, GNA – Members of the Adaklu-Anyigbe District Youth Wing of National Democratic Congress have cultivated a-40 acre maize farm at Kpetoe.

The farm is expected to be doubled this minor season and planted with beans and vegetables.

Mr Courage Danku, former Volta Regional Youth Organiser of the party, during a tour of the farm on Monday, talked about their plans.

He said following the launch of the party’s nationwide Youth In Agriculture Programme, by President John Evans Atta Mills, at Kpetoe, in May, they started the project.

Mr Danku said the fields would be ploughed and demarcated for allocation to each member of the wing, who would also be supplied with seeds and other agricultural inputs.

Mr Michael Adzaho Adaklu-Anyigbe, District Chief Executive of the area, said the reduction in the price of fertilizer and some agricultural inputs was aimed at encouraging the youth to take to farming as a vocation.

He appealed to the youth to form co-operatives to enable them to access agricultural credit facilities from the banks.

Mr. Godwin Hallo, the farm manager, said though the rainfall pattern this year was erratic they hoped to harvest about 800 maxi bags of corn.
