Red Cross volunteers to be insured

Ho, Aug. 23, GNA – The Ghana Red Cross Society is to secure insurance policies for its committed field volunteers.

The initiative is to motivate members of the Society especially the youth to give their best in the service of humanity without any anxieties.

Mr Kofi Addo, Secretary General of the Society, said this at the Third National Youth Camp of the Society in Ho under the theme, “Youth as, an agent of behavioural change.”

Mr Addo said there were other packages such as youth exchange programmes and citations to inspire young people to undertake community service voluntarily.

He appealed to young people in the Society to remain committed to their voluntary work and embark on membership drive to make the Society more visible.

Mr Addo said there were plans for the Society to promote hand washing in the communities and urged the youth to adopt the initiative and ensure that its implementation is successful.

Mr Ernest Nyame Annan, National Youth Advisor of the Society, said modest forms of motivation were necessary to arrest the flagging voluntary spirit and rejuvenate voluntarism among young people.

He commended the government for launching the National Youth Policy and urged young people to obtain copies of the Policy, study it and see how they could take advantage of the opportunities it offers for their personal development.

Mr Mathew Atinyo, Volta Regional Committee Chairman of the Society, said though the Society had chapters across the country, most chapters were dormant and called on the youth to help revive those chapters.
