UN System in Ghana to formulate strategic plan for dev’t

Ho, Aug 21, GNA – The United Nations (UN) System in Ghana is to formulate a multi-year programme framework under the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for development projects for 2012-2016.

The strategic framework would be based on human rights and result-based management.

Briefing the media, at a workshop, in Ho, on the framework, Dr. Wolfgang Haas, Resident Coordinator of UN System, said UNDAF was to ensure that all development programmes from the 14 UN agencies in the country were in line with national development priorities.

He said the UNDAF would build on the comparative advantages and role of the UN System in promoting human rights and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals, among others.

Dr. Haas said the strategic framework would particularly focus on the most vulnerable groups, specifically women and girls, and the poorest segments of the population.

It would also ensure regional and gender balance in the allocation of development projects.
