Kumasi, August 16, GNA – Residents of Atonsu-Kuwait, a suburb of Kumasi, have appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to speed up work on the street lighting project it has started in the area to help reduce the crime surge.
The darkness of the area has become a big attraction to criminals who attack and rob people of their money, handbags, cell phones, and other valuables almost on daily basis.
Even taxi-cab drivers refuse to provide services to people in this part of the metropolis after 2000 hours for fear of the miscreants.
Madam Akosua Afrakoma, one of the residents, told the Ghana News Agency that the delay in the implementation of the project by the KMA has become a bother to them.
It has been more than four months when electricity poles to light up the area were planted but the work has since stalled.
They also complained about the overpowering stench from assembly’s landfill site at Asaago, less than a-half of a kilometre away from Atonsu-Kuwait.
Mr Yaw Marfo, a businessman, said it was important the KMA acted quickly to address the nuisance.
