Kumasi, – 5 June The government has given approval for the award of contract for road markings and installation of road signs on the 31.1-kilometre Anwiankwanta-Obuasi trunk road at a cost of 90.5 million cedis.
Approval has also been given for regravelling of the first 10 out of the 25-kilometre Ejisu-Kuntanase road at a cost of 500 million cedis. Mr C. K. Vasco, Ashanti Regional Highway Director, who disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi today, said the installation of such road signs and line markings would greatly guide road users.
Mr Vasco explained that towns along the 10-kilometre Ejisu-Kuntanase road would benefit from the construction of drainage systems along the main road network this year while the rest would be catered for in phases.
He expressed satisfaction for the considerable reduction of overloading of heavy duty vehicles at the weighbridge at Asuoyeboa on the Kumasi-Sunyani road.
Mr Vasco appealed to road users to desist from spilling diesel on the roads and to heed road signs.
He added that vehicles must be towed off the roads when they develop faults.
