Akufo-Addo RUNS TO Okyenhene

By Daily DEMOCRAT

The Ofori Panin Fie in Kyebi, the seat of Okyenhene Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II was the first point of call for Nana Akufo-Addo, an Akyem royal after securing the flagbearership of the opposition New Patriot Party (NPP). Nana Addo over the weekend received massive endorsement from the party’s delegates to become the presidential candidate for the 2012 elections. He humiliated his closest competitor Alan kyeremanten who in the 2008 primaries matched him boot for boot due to massive support he received from former President Kufuor.
Nana Akufo-Addo had asked for the blessings of the Okyenhene, Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, as he begins his 28-month journey to the December 2012 general elections.

This maiden courtesy call of Nana Akufo-Addo to Kyebi, specifically to the Okyehene, can fuel the perceived Akyem-Ashante rivalry distancing Alan supporters from the campaign. According to Nana Akufo-Addo, the visit was to thank the Okyenhene, his cousin and customary grandfather, for his “ever constant moral support and guidance” and ask the Okyenhene to continue encouraging him in his political journey, which is in its 35th year.
He continued, “Nana the dreams of the founding fathers of our party, Dr Danquah, Dr Busia and the others are very much alive today. By the Grace of God and the votes of the majority of Ghanaians, we hope to recapture power in 2012 and extend the frontiers of liberty and prosperity for the masses of our people.”
The Okyenhene, Osaagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, congratulated his cousin Nana Akufo-Addo for his victory.
He encouraged him to work and pray hard as he leads the NPP in the 2012 general elections.
He also congratulated the entire NPP for conducting the elections in a free, fair and peaceful manner and urged the other political parties in the country to make a conscious effort to enhance multiparty democracy.
