Amasaman, Aug. 11, GNA – Mr Ebenerzer Nii Armarh Tackie, Ga West Municipal Chief Executive, has reiterated the need for developers, chiefs and landlords to stop putting up buildings on water ways in the municipality.
Nii Armarh Tackie made the call on Tuesday during a day’s workshop organized by the assembly in Amasaman and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for assembly members, departmental heads and opinion leaders on the preparation of disaster management plan.
Nii Armah Tackie called on the people not to farm near the two rivers in the municipality; River Densu and River Nsakyi, which often overflowed their banks during the raining season, destroying farm produce and taking human lives in communities like Nsakyina and Ayikai Doblo.
Mr Attoquaye Armarh, Member of Parliament for Trobo Amasaman Constituency, said the assembly should educate the people on such disasters to reduce the burden on government from spending huge sums of money during floods.
He said such monies could be used to build more school structures and libraries to ensure quality education for the development of the community.
Mr Emmanuel Alfred Commey-Tetteh, NADMO Coordinator of Ga West, said the government spent monies to buy relief items such as blankets, mats, mattresses, rice, maize, soaps and second-hand clothing for flood victims in four communities.
The communities include, Afiaman, Oduman, Pokuase and Medie where buildings and properties were destroyed during the recent rainstorm.
