Police warn public against motor bike riders

Accra, Aug. 4, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Command of Ghana Police Service on Wednesday pledged its commitment to bring the activities of motorbike riders who snatch valuables of the public under control.

However, it asked the public to be vigilant and protect their valuables from being snatched.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police in-charge of Public Affairs, Cyprian Zenge, said reports reaching the Command showed that the use of unregistered motorbikes in the commission of crime was still on-going in the Region in spite of several arrests and prosecutions of these criminals.

It said these criminals were mostly young men who used these motorbikes to sometimes trace the victims to the entrance of their homes, attack them and rob them of their valuables.

The statement said they were most of the time two people on the motorbike with the pillion rider wielding offensive weapons with which they threatened their victims.

It said in most of the recent reported cases, the robbers traced their victims to obscure and dark parts of the city and attacked them.

Others snatch the bags from their victims who mostly are people who stand by the road side waiting to pick vehicle.

“The Command therefore wishes to advise the public to be careful of the activities of these unscrupulous young men by not unnecessarily exposing their valuables to these young men,” it added.
