Weija (GAR), July 30, GNA – Mr John Welbeck, Principal of Institute of Technical Supervision (ITS), has appealed to government to as matter of urgency fence round the school’s land to ward off encroachers.
“We would plead with the government to fence our land for us, otherwise we would encounter serious land problems during future expansion,” he said.
Mr Welbeck, who made the appeal at the 23rd passing out ceremony for 39 technical supervisors, cited noise from surrounding churches and lack of financial support from the Government as other challenges facing the institute.
He lamented that technical officers had been relegated to the background and appealed to organisations to provide funds for the training of technical personnel.
Mr Welbeck expressed appreciation to the Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) for its assistance to the Institute, saying “We are most grateful to JICA for the donation of GH¢6,000 for the purchase of computers for our offices”.
The graduates including three women underwent six-month training in Industrial Relations, Maintenance, Workplace Management, Communication Technology and Technical Mathematics.
Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Volta River Authority, Accra Metropolitan Assembly and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had sponsored workers to undertake training at the institute.
Mr Sheriff Nii Otto Dodoo, Ga South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), congratulated the graduates and asked them to be committed to duty as they had displayed at the training.
He said that 93I would also commend the Principal and the other authorities for their devotion to work within the limited resources available to them”.
The MCE said that he would ensure that the Assembly make resources available for the institute and called on individuals and institutions to assist the institute.
Mr Richard Aburi-Yinga Anamoo, Director of Ports at GPHA, appealed to the authorities to undertake follow-ups on the performance of the graduates after training.
Mr Daniel Duodo, Out-going Senior Prefect, commended the authorities for their hardwork and devotion.
Mr Yaw Ekuagye, a graduate from GPHA received four awards and was adjudged the overall best.
