Two in Court for causing the death of pregnant girl

Kade, July 21, GNA – Two persons who gave a concoction to terminate a girl’s pregnancy, resulting in her death, were, on Wednesday, arraigned at the Kade District Magistrate’s Court.

Francis Ahiabor, a driver and Michael Tettey, a student, are charged with conspiracy to commit murder and for murdering Nana Yaa Agyekumwaa.

Their pleas were not taken and were remanded in prison custody until July 30.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Ambrose Akpablie, told the court that Tettey was a boyfriend of the deceased.

He said about two months ago the girl’s mother detected that her daughter was pregnant and when she asked her who was responsible for the pregnancy, she mentioned Tettey.

On June 11, at about 0800 hours, the girl asked permission from her mother to honour an invitation from Tettey who lived at Akwasi Manya.

The prosecutor said the deceased’ request was turned down by her mother, but the girl, left home unceremoniously to an unknown place.

He said the girl’s whereabouts was not found until June 16, at about 2000 hours, when Tettey called the mother on a mobile phone to inform her that her daughter who visited him, became seriously ill and had been rushed to the St Dominic Hospital, at Akwatia, for treatment but died shortly after admission.

The mother immediately suspected foul play and reported the case to the police so Tettey was arrested.

The prosecutor said Tettey then mentioned Ahiabor as the one who assisted him in the preparation of a concoction, which they gave to the girl to drink. They also inserted some herbs into her private part in order to terminate her pregnancy and this resulted in her death.

The two accused persons after their arrest admitted to the offence in their caution statements to the police.
