NADMO’s flood prevention measures yielding fruits in Ellembelle

Nkroful, (W/R), July 18, GNA – The Ellembelle District has not witnessed any major flood-related disaster during this year’s rains compared to the havoc which the suffered last year.

This is the result of prudent measures undertaken by the District Disaster Assessment Task Force (DDATF).

The district coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization, (NADMO) Mr. Maxwell Essien, who told the GNA in an interview at Nkroful, observed that though the area is known to record the highest rainfall in Ghana, the rains have not been destructive this year.

Mr. Essien explained that as part of measures to forestall disasters in the area, a number of interventions such as the construction of gutters by the Assembly and the de-silting of choked gutters were implemented.

Residents along flood-prone zones were also advised to leave those areas to avoid loss of lives and property.

Mr. Essien said to sustain their efforts; the district task force would go round to ensure that people build at only authorised places.

He emphasized that those who do not heed the advice would have their structures demolished.

It would recalled that some communities in the Ellembelle District were hard hit by disasters following torrential rains last year, suffering from including flooding of homes, a landslide and ripped off roofs.
