Bososu (E/R), July 16, GNA – Heavy rains at Bososu in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region, had led to the collapse of 14 houses and the displacement of 136 people including 55 children.
About 18 hours of the downpour affected Maane, Timily and Charteh, while the Boso, Peto and Yaya rivers burst their banks.
Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Regional Minister, visited the affected communities on Wednesday to sympathise with the flood victims and presented relief items to them.
The items included 20 mini-bags of rice, 10 mini- bags of beans, 10 mini-bags of maize, 10 cartons of cooking oil and three bails of used clothing.
Mr Ofosu-Ampofo appealed to the people to stop dumping refuse into the rivers, which block the water ways and lead to floods.
He urged the District Assembly to support the affected communities to improve upon their drainage systems.
Mr Abass Sebeebe, District Chief Executive said 80 pieces of mattresses, 50 pieces of mats and 70 pieces of blankets have been distributed to the victims.
Mr Ransford Owusu-Boakye, Regional Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation, said relief items valued at GHc7, 000 have been distributed to the affected people.
