Official says vocational schools should be under Education Ministry

Panfokrom (C/R), July 12, GNA – Mr. Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, Gomoa East District Chief Executive, has appealed to the government to place vocational institutions under the Ministry of Education instead of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development where they are now placed. He said vocational institutions were disadvantaged as the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development’s programmes did not cover them adequately. “Because of this lapse, vocational institutions do not benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund),” Mr Ahunu-Armah said at the graduation of students of Panfokrom Women’s Vocational Training Institute.

Ms Rebecca Ampah-Korsah, Principal of the Institute, said the Bawjiase programme area of the Plan Ghana, a child centred community development organisation, is sponsoring 25 students to pursue vocational training at Panfokrom Women’s Vocational Training Institute. The Organisation is paying the full fees for the students during the four-year course at the institute. Ms Ampah-Korsah appealed to the beneficiaries of the sponsorship package to take the course seriously as their continued enjoyment of the package would depend on their academic performance at the institute. Nana Duku Ewusie X, Mankrado of Gomoa Adzintem and Headmaster of Mozano Senior High School, appealed to the graduates to use what they had learnt to benefit them, their parents and the society as a whole. WO I Richard Annan (RTD), Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute, appealed to members of parliament, District Chief Executives and the well-to-do in the society to sponsor the youth to do short-term courses in vocational training institutions.
