Teachers advised to accept postings to rural areas

Winneba (C/R), July 11, GNA – Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, has advised teacher trainees to accept postings to the rural areas on completion of their training.

He urged the students not to allow the difficulties they faced during their internship deter them but must welcome the challenges and try to find lasting solution to them.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw said this when the management of the University welcomed a total of 2337 final year students of the university back to school after completing their nine months internship with various educational institutions, which forms part of their four years degree programme.

He said the internship offered the opportunity for the students to develop practical understanding and appreciation of their roles as teachers and develop the skills required to perform their duties.

The Vice Chancellor expressed the hope that the interns would impart the rich knowledge and experiences gained during the teaching practice after they had been posted.

Dr Ernest Awanta, Dean of student Affairs of the University, urged the students to strive to maintain the good name of the university wherever they may work after their training.

Ms Barbara Frimpong, an intern, called on the Centre for Teacher Development and Action Research of the University to regularly monitor students and mentors at the various internship schools and institutions.

The Registrar of the University, Mr Christopher Akwaa-Mensah, gave the students the assurance that management would find solution to some of the problems they faced during the internship.
