Ghana to host African Youth and Governance Conference in August

Accra, July 9, GNA – Ghana will host the second edition of the African Youth and Governance (AYG) Conference in August, aimed at stimulating dialogue on democratic governance issues on the continent. The conference also seeks to provide a common platform for the youth to share ideas and experiences on how Africa can achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The conference, which will be hosted by the Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), a non-governmental organisation and National Union of Ghana Students, will be supported by the Government and the UNFPA. More than 300 delegates from 43 countries in Africa and a number of students of African descent from the Diaspora are expected to attend. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, Mr Seth Oteng, Executive Director of YBF noted that the three- day conference seeks to build up on the 2009 Conference. It will be on the theme: “Participation and Empowerment of Youth Mobilisation with Maternal Mortality, Gender Equality and Youth Employability and the Africa’s achievement of the MDG’s.” Mr Oteng said the annual conference slated to take place from August 10 to August 12, would acknowledge and reward young Africans in diverse fields who have distinguished themselves.
