Court remands trader for blinding rival’s eye

Akim Swedru (E/R), July 8, GNA – The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in th e Birim South District, on Thursday remanded Yaa Boadua, a trader, in priso n custody for causing harm to the left eye of a perceived rival, Madam Aben a Kumiwa. Boadua’s accomplices, Agnes Addo, a farmer and Akosua Yeboah, a trad er, have been granted GH¢500.00 bail with one surety each. The accused and her accomplices pleaded not guilty to causing unlawf ul harm and would reappear on July 20. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kingsley Antwi told the court presided

over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that Madam Kumiwa and the three accused persons live at Akim Aduasa in the Eastern Region.

At about 2000 hours on June 12, Boadua met Madam Kumiwa in town and confronted her about her relationship with her husband. He said before Madam Kumiwa could utter a word, Boadua hit her left eye and took to her heels. Inspector Antwi said Madam Kumiwa made a report to the police and a medical form was issued to her to attend the Akim Oda Government Hospital , where she was referred to the Saint Dominic Hospital at Akwatia. He said the hospital officials told her that her left eye was bey ond treatment. He said on June 22, the police arrested the accused person and her accomplices, upon a tip off.
