Foreign teachers to study traditional practices in Volta region

Ho, July 7, GNA – A group of 35 teachers from Europe, USA, China and South Africa, would be in the Volta Region from July 25 to August 10 this year, to study traditional practices.

A press release from the Institute for Music and Development (IMD), a folkloric organization based in Ho, said the group would participate in workshops on culture and related issues during the study tour. The release listed “traditional acculturative processes of acquiring artistic knowledge and role of oral traditions in the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation” as areas of interest of the visitors.

The release said the group is also interested in the “interactive mechanisms that enhance social integration of children and youth into adult roles”.

The programme, dubbed “Orff Afrique” is under the auspices of IMD, whose founder and director, Professor Komla Amoaku is the former Director of the National Theatre. The release said the programme whose highpoint is a workshop to be addressed by Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, would become a yearly affair.

It observed that the “traditional African approach to acquiring artistic knowledge is similar to the universally acclaimed ‘Orff Schulwerk,’ which was developed by Carl Orff , late German Composer, under whose tutelage Professor Amoaku developed the ‘Orff Afrique'”. 7 July 10
