People of Western Region asked to decide on usage of oil money

Sekondi, June 1, GNA – Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Thursday called on people in the region to make suggestions on the management of revenue that would be generated from the oil discovery. He noted that the people were not united on the matter and many divergent views have been expressed.

Mr. Aidoo made the call at a luncheon organized by the Regional Coordinating Council for about 500 senior citizens to mark this year’s Senior Citizens Day at Sekondi.

He said that government was concerned about the management and sharing of oil revenue adding that the percentage of the revenue to be allocated to the region has not been decided.

Mr. Aidoo said suggestions of the people on the issue would enable government to formulate a good policy. He said that the Regional Coordinating Council would organize a workshop on the management and distribution of oil revenue to collate views of the people.

Mr. Aidoo called on the people unite and support government in the management of the oil industry. Some senior citizens called on government to ensure that they benefited from the one per cent deductions from their pension. They suggested that greater part of the oil revenue should be used for development projects in the region.
