Yagbonwura Jakpa calls on Asantehene

Kumasi, June 12, GNA – Yagbonwura Tuntumba Bore Essa Sulemana Japka I, President of the Gonja Traditional Area, has praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his significant contribution towards calming tension and promoting inter-ethnic cooperation.

He said he was particularly happy about the manner in which the various ethnic groups were living peacefully together in the Ashanti Region. Additionally, he said, he admired the visionary leadership of the Asantehene, evidence of which were found in his many initiatives in the areas of Education and Health Development.

Yagbonwura Jakpa gave the commendation, when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu, at his Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi. He was accompanied by all the Divisional Chiefs in the Gonja area. The entry of the Yagbonwura to the Palace was heralded by spectacular “Damba” dance, which drew a huge crowd.

The Yagbonwura thanked Otumfuo Osei Tutu for the concern and support he gave to the people of Gonjaland at the time of the death of his predecessor Yagbonwura Bawa Abudu Doshie.

“I am grateful to Asanteman for their prayers and unflinching support during my enskinment and promise that the Gonja Traditional Council would strengthen its relations with the Manhyia Palace.” The Asantehene said thanked him for the visit and said the doors of the Manhyia Palace were always opened to Gonjas. Otumfuo Osei Tutu and the Yagbonwura later met behind closed doors. 12 June 10
