Rawlings urged to stop vicious campaign against Mills Administration

Apam (C/R), June 7, GNA – The Gomoa West Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Kwame Arhin, has assured Former President Jerry John Rawlings that the party is on course to winning the 2012 general election with an even better margin.

“The Almighty God who made it possible for the party to come back to power in 2008 would definitely retain it in power in 2012,” he said in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Apam at the weekend.

Nana Arhin said what the party needed from its founder, Former President Rawlings, was for him to stop the vicious campaign against the administration of his former Vice-President, John Evans Atta Mills. He described some of the utterances about the administration of the man he (Rawlings) introduced to Ghanaians as honest and a man of integrity and capable of leading the nation to the “promising land” as most unfortunate. Nana Arhin advised the Former President to help President Mills to succeed, since the latter’s failure would be the failure of Rawlings because he introduced President Mills to Ghanaians.

He said it was unfortunate that though the former President had been attending national executive meetings of the party, he did not find it a better platform to discuss the shortcomings of the Mills administration but rather preferred to go public.

He said it was unfortunate that the former President based his criticisms mostly on the inability of the Mills administration to jail alleged corrupt officials of Former President Kufuor’s government. Nana Arhin said President Mills and the Attorney General had assured the nation that anybody proved to have been involved in corrupt practices would not go scot-free.

“We must give them time to gather their evidence to enable them to make credible prosecutions”, he said. Nana Arhin appealed to the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings who is also the First Vice Chairperson of the party, and all admirers of good governance to bring Former President Rawlings to order.
