Heavy down pour renders 30 people homeless

Mampong (Ash), June 4, GNA – Severe flooding following heavy downpour on

Thursday night at Asante-Mampong wrecked properties and left many people homeless. A twelve-bedroom house totally collapsed and about 40 occupants now have no shelter. Also carried away by the flood were commercial items including bags of rice, cement, sugar, flour and personal belongings, running into thousand s of GH Cedis. The worse affected area was the Tadiem suburb, where construction work b y a private developer had blocked the water way.

Mr Moro Iddrisu, the Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), who accompanied the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Daniel Appau Ohyeaman and other members of the security committee to inspect the damage, attributed the flooding to the blockade by the developer. He said his outfit was assessing the extent of the damage and the suppor t that could be given to the victims.
