Trypanosomiasis Eradicated in UWR of Ghana

Tsetsefly transmission of trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness in livestock has been eradicated in the Upper West Region. This follows a massive aerial spraying carried out by the Pan African Tsetse and Trypanosomiasis Eradication Campaign.

With this development, disease transmission will no longer exist and cost of spending by livestock farmers on drugs will be reduced.

The Coordinator of the Campaign Dr. Charles Mahama who disclosed this to Radio Ghana said the programme which is sponsored by the Ghana Government and the African Union will be extended to the Northern, Upper East and other livestock breeding areas in the country to boost the industry.
