N/R police has only one vehicle for patrol duties

Tamale, May 24, GNA – Assistant Commissioner of Police Agwunbutoge Awuni, the Northern Regional Police Commander, on Monday expressed worry about numerous challenges facing the service in the region including inadequate police personnel with only one vehicle for highway patrols for the entire region.

He said most of the vehicles for highway patrols had broken down and this was hampering the effectiveness of the service to combat highway robberies. Mr Awuni said this when the Director General of Police Operations, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) John Kudalor, toured the reion. The visit was to enable DCOP John Kudalor to interact with the police personnel and to know their problems and input them into the services restructuring programme.

Mr Awuni said though the region faces numerous challenges, the regional command had worked hard to maintain peace and order. He mentioned the Dagbon conflict, Yapei/Kusawgu, Bupei, Bunkpurugu/Yuyoo and Gushiegu as the trouble spots of the region that had taken away most of the police personnel.

Mr Kudalor commended them for their dedication and commitment to duty that had enable them deal with armed robbery, conflicts and other societal problems.

He said the image cleansing of the service would continue until a desirable service was achieved. 24 May 10
