DIRECTOR MAN CALLS FOR FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION

Mr Mohammed Doku, Asutifi District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), on Friday called for a concerted effort to stamp out vices which were creeping back into the society.

He mentioned misuse of state property, bribery, corruption, drug abuse, pre-marital sex and indiscipline as some of the vices which need to be checked.

Mr. Doku was addressing a durbar of progressive voluntary organisations (PVO’s) in the Asutifi district. They discussed topics such as the forthcoming unit committee elections, re-introduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT), objective of Vision 2020 and problems of environmental degradation.

Mr. Doku told the members that as former cadres, their activities should be made more relevant to the needs of the society especially on the issue of moral indiscipline. The district organizer of PVO’s Mr. Kwaku Anane-Amankwah, asked members to lead exemplary lives and said as vanguards of the 31st December Revolution, their dedication and commitment to the national cause is still relevant. On VAT, members said while its re-introduction is necessary, the government should keep the percentage low to reduce the burden on the people. – GNA
