Minister calls on Assemblies to enforce bye-laws on sanitation

Bolgatanga, May 12, GNA – The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, has appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to make and enforce by-laws to regulate dumping of refuse. He appealed to assemblies and the appropriate agencies responsible for the evacuation of refuse or waste to carry out their duties on regular basis to avoid refuse piling up.

Mr. Woyongo told the GNA in an interview that such quick response to duty would reduce flooding.

He said the recurrence of floods in parts of the country was as a result of lack of proper management of waste.

The Regional Coordinator of National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Patrick Akake, said a collective affirmative action was the surest way of preventing and mitigating the effects of disaster in the Region and the country as a whole.
