Rotary Club donates mosquito treated nets to W/R Health Directorate

Angu (W/R), May 9, GNA – Rotary Club International has donated about 10,000 long lasting mosquito treated nets to Western Regional Health Directorate for free distribution to communities. Dr. Linda Vanotoo, Regional Director of Health, made this known on Friday at Angu in the Mpohor Wassa East District, where 500 of the nets were distributed to the people by the regional and district directorates. She said the long lasting nets would provide effective protection against mosquitoes.

Dr. Vanotoo said malaria mostly takes its toll on children between zero to five years and pregnant women who are at times are compelled to deliver pre-maturely. She advised the people to report all suspected malaria cases immediately to hospital and to sleep under the nets to protect themselves from mosquito bites. They should also desist from indiscriminately littering the environment with empty con tainers during the raining season to prevent breeding of mosquitoes.

Mr. Frank Gadzapo, President of Rotary Club, Accra, said the nets were donated under the malaria project of the club to complement the work of the government to eradicate the debilitating disease. He said the club was also engaged in the polio eradication efforts and the provision of boreholes and hospital equipment to needed communities and organisations.

Mr. Gadzapo said the Rotary Club is a service organisation dedicated to the improvement of the lot of communities and its work is carried out by volunteers.
