Dormaa intensifies HINI campaign

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), May 6, GNA – Dormaa Municipal Assembly in the Brong-Ahafo Region, has in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), embarked on an intensive public education on the causes and prevention of the HINI respiratory pandemic. Since its launch by the Chief Executive for the municipality, Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah, the NCCE team headed by municipal Director Amankwaa Boateng has visited churches, mosques, schools, workplaces and social gatherings in Dormaa-Ahenkro.

Mr Asamoah appealed to the public to be wary of the rapidity with which the HINI virus was spreading, and take precaution particularly when sneezing, coughing or spitting in public. He said even though Ghana was yet to record any death in connection with the pandemic, sight should not be lost of the fact that contagious diseases often trigger panic among the public, and also unleash negative impact on productivity to worsen poverty situation especially in the hinterland.

At Dormaa-Ahenkro St. Dominic Church, Mr. Boateng took the congregation through the basic signs and symptoms of the HINI flu and stressed the need for everybody to be vigilant and report all suspected cases to the nearest health facility.

“The fact that the flu begins just like the normal cold that many of us suffer occasionally, it is important that we take all flu symptoms more serious than before, and redress at the right place and in time too, to avoid exposing ourselves to any complications,” he advised. Mr. Boateng urged the congregation to regularly wash their hands, cover their noses with handkerchiefs when sneezing, and to avoid spitting indiscriminately in public adding, cleanliness and decency are required to ward off the pandemic. 6 May 10
