Youth cleans up hospital to demonstrate spirit of voluntarism

Adidome (V/R), May 6, GNA – A group of young people at Adidome in the North Tongu District, at the weekend marked this year’s May Day with a clean-up exercise at the North Tongu District Hospital at Adidome. The youth cleared the weeds, and cleaned in and around the Hospital, giving it a fresh breath of cleanliness and attraction. They also replenished the hospital’s Blood Bank by donating blood to it.

Mr Courage Dei-Zanga, Executive Director of Courage Foundation International, organizer of the exercise, said the initiative was to instil the “spirit of voluntarism” in the youth, and to make them aware that they need to play a part in preserving public properties. He said the Foundation in line with the United Nation’s theme for the year “Volunteering for the Planet” was working with the Forestry Commission to plant trees around some public places including the Hospital. Mr Dei-Zanga said the Foundation planned more voluntary activities to complement government’s efforts at achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.

Togbe Atatim Emmanuel Gbeve, Administrator of North Tongu District Hospital, said the Hospital has only two labourers and that occasional clean-up support from organizations and youth groups would help improve the sanitation situation at the facility.
