NDC foot-soldiers receive certificates of honour

Accra, May 4, GNA – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend presented about 1,000 certificates to dedicated polling agents, foot-soldiers and other officials in the Ablekuma Central Constituency to honour their efforts in ensuring victory for the party in the 2008 general elections.

The certificates were signed by Mr Danny Annan, National First Vice Chairman and the President John Atta Mills. Presenting the certificates, Mr Annan said the NDC sees the development of the nation as paramount and urged the foot-soldiers to build bridges of understanding. He said the NDC believes in equity and therefore it would continue to provide policies and programmes that would improve the economy and the wellbeing of the people.

Mr Annan gave the assurance that the NDC would not be detracted from its commitments to pursue its objectives by comments from political opponents. He warned against acts that were detrimental to the progress of the party in the constituency and called on foot-soldiers, who were getting discouraged, to stand firm and come together to strengthen the base of the party. Mr Annan also cautioned the activists not to play into the hands of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that was interested in breaking the front of the NDC using such phrases as “Atta Mills is slow”. Mr Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, Member of Parliament for the area urged the NDC supporters to concentrate on things that would move the party forward, adding that a close collaboration between all factions was vital for development at the constituency level.

He enumerated a number of development projects he had implemented and said the provision and improvement of educational facilities had been his focus during his 16 months period as MP.

Mr Chaie said he believed that the provision of such social services was a policy to improve the lives of the people, which a lot of people have benefited from in the area. Alhaji Baba Iddrissu, MP for Yendi said the fair distribution of social amenities by government in the country clearly demonstrated that the NDC was a government for all. He urged supporters of party to be patient to the government and the executives in the constituency. 4 May 10
