Nsawam traders appeal to Assembly for a new location

Nsawam, April 28, GNA – Fifty traders illegally occupying the land of Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) at Nsawam, have appealed to the Akuapim South District Assembly to provide them a new location before their ejection by GRCL. The GRCL has given the traders up to May 10, 2010 to vacate the area. A copy of the warning letter copied to the Ghana News Agency said failure to comply with the order would compel the GRCL to send task force team to forcefully eject them. The traders, therefore, called on Dr Godfred Osei Bonso Twum, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapim South to personally intervene to assist them with a place.

Mr Frederick Miatordzo, Chairman for the traders Association said the traders comprised wholesalers and retailers of assorted food, beverages, clothing as well as drinking and chop bar operators. He said the traders pay revenues to the Assembly and the GRCL. Mr Miatordzo said the 14-day notice given them by the authorities could not be met since they would need more time to remove their belongings. As a result he asked the Municipal Chief Executive to negotiate for more time for them.
