Asantehene Fails to Secure Any Deals in US

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s visit to Maryland in the United States has ended and he’s expected to travel to Washington. Our reporter, Dan Nubah who accompanied him on the trip says most of the partnerships the Asantehene sought to build between Ghana and Maryland did not materialise.

According to our reporter, the Asantehene sought assistance in the fields of Education, Health and the Economy but could not secure any deals because members of his team did not have the requisite information on the fields.

At Maryland, the Asantehene called for an exchange programme between students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital of Ghana and the University of Maryland but again the agreement was not sealed.

This probably was because the delegation did not include an official of the University who could have given first hand information on the mechanics of such an exchange program, the department that will benefit most, financial needs of the students, and other relevant areas for further co-operation. The Asantehene therefore promised to detail the Vice Chancellor of the KNUST to Maryland to finalise agreements on his return to Ghana.

It also came to light, that the Asantehene did not have an Economic Development expert on his entourage, who could discuss the country’s economy with experts on the Maryland side. No concrete agreements were therefore reached. The Asantehene is however expected to travel to Washington where prospects for economic pacts and exchanges are expected to be reached.
