Accra, April 26, GNA – The Management of Metro Mass Transport (MMT) a public transport organisation in collaboration with National Security Council has began operations in the Bawku Municipality from Monday, April 26.
A statement issued in Accra by Mr Martin Afram, Acting Managing Director said the operations would begin from 0600 hours to 1530 hours daily and each bus service is expected to make 14 trips to reduce passengers waiting time and ensure high accessibility rate.
It said school children in uniform would board the buses free of charge, and reminded passengers to pay the appropriate fares and always insist on their tickets for their luggage as well.
The statement said on Monday, April 5, the Upper East Regional Security Council instituted a temporary ban on the use of motorbikes in the Bawku Municipality to curb the conflict in the area. It said during the period of the ban, the travelling public would require safe, reliable and affordable means of transportation to and from their homes, workplaces, hospitals, schools and markets. “It is in line with its vision of providing affordable means of transportation to the public that management decided to support the residents of Bawku Municipality,” the statement said.
