NLC auctions property belonging to Asare Original Pay All

Accra, April 26, GNA – The National Labour Commission (NLC) has attached and sold by public auction property belonging to the management of Stephen Asare Enterprises Limited, a private lotto operator known as Asar= e Original Pay All. The money was used to pay a total of GH¢96,850 to 89 former worker= s of the company who were made redundant two years ago.

A statement issued in Accra on Monday and signed by Mr Mohammed Affu= m, Public Affairs Officer of NLC said the redundant workers, who had not bee= n paid their severance packages, petitioned the Commission, under whose auspices the quantum and terms of payment of severance package was negotiated. It said following failure of the company to pay the workers, the Commission applied to the High Court for an order to attach the company’s=

property at Nungua Barrier in Accra, which was auctioned in February, 201= 0. In another development, the Commission has filed an application in t= he Labour Court in Accra to garnishee the bank accounts of a company which h= as failed to comply with its ruling to pay compensation, including accrued salaries, to a former worker who was unfairly terminated.

The Commission is to institute contempt proceedings in the High Cour= t against parties which have refused to comply with subpoenas served on the= m to appear before it or respond to requests for information to facilitate settlement of industrial complaints lodged with the Commission.
