Philanthropist donates to Takpo school children

Takpo, UWR, April 11, GNA – Madam Ama Wayne Dunn, a Ghanaian philanthropist resident in Canada, has donated school materials to 1,000 school children in the Takpo Traditional Area in the Nadowli District. The items included school bags, mathematical sets, note books, pencils, pens and footballs.

Mr. Wayne Dunn, husband of Ama Serbah presented the items on behalf of his wife to the school authorities during the celebration of “Willa” festival by the chiefs and people of Takpo Traditional Area. He said the gesture was a social responsibility of Mrs. Dunn and her family to children in the area so that they could remain in school. Mr. Dunn said “The welfare of children, especially those in school is our greatest concern and we would to continue to assist them to improve education in the area”.

He said they family had established a micro-enterprise fund for women in the area to undertake farming and other economic ventures to enhance their livelihoods to enable them to support their children in school. Mr. Dunn said the family was supporting widows in the area with credit facility to enable them to undertake sheabutter production and beekeeping. He gave the assurance that the family would continue to provide market for sheabutter. In a related development, Major (rtd) Albert Danchebe, Public Affairs Manager of Vodafone, and a citizen of Takpo, presented three computers, Ghana flags, and maps for the Takpo Junior High School. He expressed worry about the fallen standards of education in the area and promised to support schools with more computers and educational materials. 11 April 10
