Anti-Rabies Campaign Starts May 31

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Thursday said its anti-rabies campaign would be from May 31 to November 30.

It said in a statement that a minimum of 10,000 Cedis would be charged for cost recovery and AMA Dog Licence fee.

It said pet owners living in Accra are advised to vaccinate their pets and demand their dog licensing tag after vaccination.

After November 30, all unvaccinated dogs and pets without the AMA dog-licensing tags would be arrested and destroyed by an AMA task force.

The statement said about six people die every year from rabid bite in Accra. Laboratory results confirm that every third dog-bite case reported is rabies positive.
