Western Regional CLOGSAG expresses concern about SSSS

Sekondi, April 3, GNA – Government has been asked to compel the Fair=

Wages and Salary Commission to address issues raised concerning the Salar= y Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) by Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG).

This is contained in a communiqu=E9 signed by Mr. Kobina Asemanyi, Chairman of the Western Regional branch of CLOGSAG, and Mr. Kwamena Otu Odoom, Regional Secretary of the Group, at its emergency meeting at Sekon= di. It was copied to President John Evans Atta Mills through Mr. Paul Ev= ans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister. The communiqu=E9 mentioned grading structure, placements, step incre= ments within the SSSS, allowances to be paid under SSSS, conversion criteria, comprehensive guidelines and conversion differences, as some of the issue= s raised.

It said “In view of the above concerns, CLOGSAG remains undaunted in=

its pursuit for social justice and fair play and would not waiver from th= e stand taken, until the Commission attends to the points raised”.

The statement called on government to take steps to address the concerns within one week or else members of CLOGSAG would advise themselv= es. It alleged that the Commission, which has been established and mandated by government to preside over equity and fairness to all public and civil service institutions, was frustrating efforts that has been made ov= er the years to implement the SSSS. The communiqu=E9 said “instead of settling down to address concerns raised by CLOGSSAG and other institutions, the Commission has decided to take a cross country ride to distort facts.”

It also claimed that not even invitation by the Minister of Employme= nt and Social Welfare on two occasions last week could make the Commission t= o meet executives of the Association to iron out their differences.
