Taido (C/R), April 3, GNA – The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has se= t up a community initiative fund to whip-up self-help spirit in the people. The fund, which is demand-driven, is being used to support communiti= es which are ready to improve their standard of living and so have initiated=
projects.
Mr Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive, announced this wh= en the Assembly donated 50 bags of cement each to three communities to undertake their initiated projects. The beneficiary communities, Taido near Anomabo, is constructing a three-bedroom quarters for nurses, Ndasimam, a three-unit classroom block=
and Ekumfi Atwaa, a 10 seater vault chamber toilet.
Mr Hayfron said the setting up of the fund was necessitated by the inability of some communities in the municipality to utilise some cement donated by the Assembly to them for projects.
He cautioned the beneficiaries to ensure that the cement were used strictly for the purposes for which they were donated, and added that the=
Assembly had put in place monitoring mechanism to check abuse of items donated to communities. Mr Paul Mac Ofori, Municipal Planning Officer advised the communitie= s to seek technical advice from the Assembly to ensure that the projects conformed to the required specification.
At Taido, Nana Sam X, Chief of the town, who received the items, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for recognising their communal spirit= .. At Ndasimam, Nana Kojo Appah V, Mankrado, who received the items appealed to the Assembly to help the community to reactivate a vocational=
school which collapsed, due to the inability of the community to pay the salaries of the teachers.
Nana Appah also appealed for the rehabilitation of the road from Anom= abo to the town, which is in a deplorable state.
Mr Michael Aidoo, the Assembly Member received the bags of cement at Atwaa and appealed to the Assembly to bring officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to order on the removal of metres within the community. He explained that the bill collectors for the company often removed metres and cables from the site of customers who owed the company. The MCE promised to take up the matter with ECG.
