Bolgatanga, April 1, GNA – The Civil Servants Association (CSA) in the Upper East Region, has presented a petition to the Upper East Regional Minister Mr Mark Woyongo, expressing their displeasure at the placements under the new Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). The petition stated that the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, of the Upper East Region, view with displeasure the continuous inaction of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) even though it has accepted that there were grey areas, which could hinder the successful implementation of the SSSS.
The Regional Secretary of the Association, Mr Stephen Salia Dasah, presented the petition which said: “Civil servants are not against the pay policy or government per say, but we are against the implementation of the pay structure in its present form which would put the entire membership at a disadvantage regarding the take home pay”. The petition asked questions that included why a graduate entering the Civil Service has been placed on level “13” while a graduate entering institutions such as the Audit Service and the Internal Revenue Service starts at level 14.
In addition it said a Corporal in the Police Service has been placed on level 16 while a graduate with much higher qualification in the Civil Service was at level 13. The petition also questioned why the relativity of three per cent now should be reduced to two per cent under the new SSSS. It told FWSC to listen with keen interest to the issues raised by the Civil Servants in order to take appropriate remedial action.
