NDC youth locks up MHIS offices in Breman Asikuma

Breman Asikuma (C/R), April 1, GNA – About 100 members of the youth wing of the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa constituency of the National Democratic Congress, on Thursday morning, invaded the offices of the district secretariat of the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).

They locked up the offices with padlocks and also prevented the workers from entering.

According to the Breman Asikuma police, the youth led by Mr Paul Kofi, Constituency Youth Organiser of the NDC, claimed that, their action followed the inability of the district Assembly to investigate a petition they sent to them on a number of allegations of malpractices going on at the offices of the scheme.

The District Chief Executive, Madam Georgina Nkrumah Aboah in a telephone interview with the Ghana News Agency said the petition, which was received about four days ago, is being studied by the complaints Sub-committee of the district Assembly for the necessary action. The DEC therefore condemned the action of the youth and urged them to exercise restraint for the Assembly to conduct a proper investigation into the allegations.

The group however did not cause any damage to properties.
