Soldier Fined One Million Cedis

An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday fined a soldier one million cedis for threatening to kill a bailiff and a contractor with a pistol.

Lord Nii Afotsey Otu will go to jail for three years in hard labour if he fails to pay the amount.

The complainants are Mr. Emmanuel Brown, a High Court bailiff, and Mr. Jonathan Yao Dovi, Director of Services at the Regional Building and Construction Company Limited, also in Accra.

Chief Inspector Benedicta Akolga told the tribunal chaired by Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah that there is a land dispute between Dovi’s company and Otu. She said at about 0725 hours on May 13, 1998, Mr. Dovi led Brown to the residence of Otu at Baatsona to serve him with a writ of summons.

After Mr. Dovi introduced Mr. Brown as a bailiff from the High Court, Otu pulled a pistol and pointed it at them ordering them to leave his house or he would shoot and kill them, the prosecutor told the tribunal.

They fled and made a report to the Nungua Police.
