Tema, Mar 18, GNA – Two labourers of the Jillof Waste Management Company Limited were on Wednesday remanded into police custody for stealing armoured cable valued at 780 Ghana Cedis, the property of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).
Francis Korsah and Issahaku Mohammed, both 25 years of age, were remanded by the Tema Circuit Court 91B’ presided over by Mrs Amanda Aikins.
They pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to steal and stealing and would re-appear in court on March 22. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Evelyn Susuawu told the court that Korsah, Mohammed and one Fusheni who is at large, are employees of the Waste Management Company which is attached to TOR. On March 15, the three conspired and used a hack saw blade to cut the sealed armoured cable and concealed it under the rubbish in their pick-up truck driven by Mohammed to outwit the security personnel at the main exit of the Refinery.
She said the theft was detected through routine checks leading to their ar= rest.
Chief Inspector Susuawu said the accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statements and mentioned Fusheni as their accomplice.
