Tigo to renovate 32 deprived schools in Greater Accra

Accra, March 17, GNA – Millicom Ghana, operators of Tigo cellular network, is to rehabilitate 32 deprived basic schools in the Greater Accr= a Region, as part of its social responsibility.

The project, which would be extended to cover 36 districts, would benefit over 100 deprived basic schools across the country. Addressing the press during a familiarization tour of some the identified schools at Nima, a suburb of Accra, on Wednesday, Ms. Anita Erskine, Corporate Affairs Manager of the company, said Millicom Ghana was committed to promoting education in the country.

He said “As we all know, education forms the foundation on which true development is based and Tigo is committed to that”.

Ms. Erskine said that so far only two deprived schools at Nima had been identified and that the rehabilitation work would start on Monday, 22nd of March 2010.

Others identified, included Qubatah Khadrah Islamic Basic School and St. Kizito Roman Catholic Church Basic School, which did not have adequate classrooms and Information Technology Communication facilities. She said the company was waiting for a report on the beneficiary schools before the allocation of the needed amount.
