Accra, March 12, GNA – President John Atta Mills on Friday thanked the chiefs and people of the Aflao Traditional Area for their confidence in the government and assured them of their fair share of development projects. He said despite the economic challenges it inherited from the previous government the present government did not throw its hands in despair but had put the economy on a better keel with light at the end of the tunnel.
President Mills said the government was on course with its commitment to building a better Ghana and would not take the confidence the people had reposed in it for granted since ingratitude breeds bitterness and makes it difficult for people to co-operate for progress.
President Mills said this when a delegation from the Aflao Traditional Area led by the Paramount Chief, Torgbui Amenya Fiti V, paid a courtesy call on him at the Castle, Osu. He expressed appreciation for support from the chiefs and said the government would not turn its back on them. He said road projects like the Kpando-Worawora-Damba, Akatsi-Ahonu-Dzodze and the Asikuma Hohoe, Jasikan-Nkwanta were either on course or would be tackled soon.
The chiefs invited the President to their annual Godigbe festival which comes on next October. They commended efforts by President Mills and Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe to reconstitution Joint Border Demarcation Commission. The chiefs called for the completion of the construction of the Aflao Senior High School and some feeder roads in the area and suggested that Tema/Aflao highway should be made a dual carrigeway.
