Rival Juaso chiefs stopped from attending Independence anniversary

Juaso (Ash), March 8, GNA – The confusion and chaotic scenes that had for the past decade characterized the Independence Day celebration in the Asante-Akim South District was absent last Saturday as the two rival chiefs of Juaso were banned from attending.

The District Security Committee told Nana Safrotwie Sarpong and Nana Owusu Prempeh to stay away from the parade of school children marking 53 years of nationhood.

This decision was vindicated as the celebration passed off without trouble, winning praise from the public who called for sustained efforts to find lasting solution to the dispute.

Another novelty in this year’s anniversary celebration was the prize award for participating schools that reported early at the parade ground. Mr De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive, said this was meant to inculcate in the youth the need for time consciousness. He urged school children to be disciplined, honest and hard working, saying this was the way to achieving success in life. He reaffirmed the government’s determination to ensure that the right conditions existed for effective teaching and learning. 08 March 10
