Zabzugu/Tatale MP cries for water for constituents

Accra, Feb. 15, GNA – Mr. John Jabbah Bennam, Member of Parliament f= or Zabzugu/Tatale on Monday appealed to government, non-governmental organisations and philanthropists to assist his constituents with potable=

water. He noted that eradication of guineaworm infestation in the area coul= d not be possible due to the lack of potable water. Mr. Bennam who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra said apart from Zabzugu township that is hooked to pipe-borne water, all other major towns in the district relied on borehol= es, which cannot meet the demands of the increasing population.

He noted that although Tatale township is earmarked for the provisio= n of pipe-borne water, there is the urgent need to increase the number of boreholes in the area to solve the perennial water shortage facing the people. “During the dry season, the people are compelled to use dams and pon= ds to supplement water from the boreholes, which eventually put them at the risk of contracting guineaworm and other waterborne diseases,” he said.
