Chief of Staff Drops Legal Threat Against Daily Graphic

The Chief of Staff at the presidency Jake Obetsebie Lamptey has revealed that he has dropped the One Hundred Million Cedi damage claims against the Daily Graphic newspaper following the apology and retraction of the story, which linked him to a company contracted to undertake renovation exercise at the Osu Castle.

Mr. Obetsebie Lamptey told JOY FM in an interview that he has also shelved the intended court action against the newspaper.

About two weeks ago the Daily Graphic published a report sourced from the Ghana News Agency and attributed it to the minority leader in parliament, which alleged that the Chief of Staff owned a company, which had been awarded a 1.9 billion cedi contract for the renovation of the Osu castle.

The paper refused to publish a rejoinder written to it by Mr. Obetsebie Lamptey, categorically denying the allegation. This compelled him to resort to legal threat.

It is uncertain whether a similar threat against the minority leader in parliament Alban Bagbin who alleges that his statements were misrepresented by the GNA has also been dropped.
